Savings: travel insurance
7 min readTravel insurance in the Netherlands without commission
Travel insurance looks small, but the policy only becomes important once your luggage is lost, a trip ends early or you unexpectedly need help abroad. That is when worldwide cover, medical assistance, baggage limits and cancellation modules really matter. A commission-free comparison helps because many travel policies look similar on paper, while the details determine most of the real value.
People in the Netherlands who want to choose annual or single-trip travel insurance based on actual cover, not just price. · Updated: 2026-06-13 · Verified by Pieter Smit (Certified Insurance Advisor Wft)
Start with the format: annual or single-trip
The first choice is not the cover but the format. Annual travel insurance makes sense if you travel several times a year. Single-trip cover can be smarter for one holiday or one long, one-off trip. So the cheapest solution depends on your travel pattern, not just the yearly premium.
If you travel often for weekend breaks, family visits or mixed work and private trips, an annual policy often wins. If you only travel in summer or make a single trip, a short-term policy may be better. The relationship between premium and use determines the real value.
What the policy should be checked against in practice
- Check the region: Europe, worldwide excluding the US, or worldwide.
- Review baggage limits and the maximum payout per item.
- Read the rules for assistance, repatriation and early return.
- Check add-ons for winter sports, activities or cancellation if you actually need them.
Why commission-free comparison pays off here
Many travel policies look similar until you read the small print. A commission-free comparison keeps the focus on price, limits, exclusions and assistance. That matters because a cheap policy can look fine until a delay or claim happens, when it suddenly offers very little value.
Step 1: Map your travel pattern
Look at how often you travel, how long trips usually are and whether you often go outside Europe.
Step 2: Check the cover limits
Review baggage, emergency help, medical assistance and extra activities such as winter sports.
Step 3: Compare total value
A few euros more per year can be sensible if the sub-limits and assistance are clearly better.

Frequently asked questions
Is annual travel insurance always cheaper?
No. It depends on how often you travel and how long trips are. For several trips a year, annual cover is often better; for one holiday, single-trip cover may be cheaper.
Does travel insurance cover medical costs abroad?
Often yes as an add-on or through assistance, but travel insurance does not replace health insurance. Check the conditions for medical help and repatriation.
Do I need worldwide cover?
Only if you travel outside Europe or do so regularly. If you mostly travel within Europe, a Europe area may be enough. Check your destinations and activities.
Does PolisMoment give travel advice itself?
No. PolisMoment does not give insurance advice and does not broker policies. Your request goes to one independent firm for a free, non-binding check.
