Savings: car insurance
8 min readCar insurance in the Netherlands without commission
With car insurance, the lowest premium rarely tells the whole story. WA third-party liability is mandatory, but beyond that the policy quality determines what happens after damage, theft or glass breakage. Think deductible, repair choice, replacement car, market value and whether All-Risk still makes sense once the car loses value. A commission-free comparison helps you weigh price and conditions side by side, so you do not pay for a sales margin that adds nothing to your cover.

Start with cover, not the lowest premium
WA, WA+ and All-Risk are not price labels but different risk levels. WA covers damage you cause to others. WA+ usually adds fire, theft, storm and glass breakage. All-Risk also covers damage to your own car caused by your own fault. The right choice depends on market value, finance, your savings buffer and how fast the car loses value.
An expensive All-Risk policy can make sense for a new or recent car, but for a car that has already lost a lot of value you may simply be paying for extra cover that no longer matches the risk. On the other hand, a policy that is too thin can become expensive the moment you have a claim.
The policy details that matter after a claim
- Check how long the new-for-old or purchase-value clause applies.
- See whether glass, charging cables, accessories and tow bars are covered.
- Compare the standard deductible with the discount for a higher deductible.
- Pay attention to mandatory repair shops and how they affect your payout.
Why a commission-free comparison is clearer
In a commission-driven sales model, it is hard to see whether the recommendation is led by your interests or by the intermediary's remuneration. A commission-free comparison removes that distortion. You compare net premium, cover, repair terms and claims handling without a hidden margin in the price.
Step 1: Gather the policy basics
Write down insurer, cover, premium, claim-free years and renewal date. That immediately shows your current cost and terms.
Step 2: Compare cover against value
Match the premium to the car's current market value and your cash buffer. That tells you when All-Risk still makes sense and when WA+ can be enough.
Step 3: Read the small print
Focus on deductible, glass damage, replacement car and repair choice, because that is where the real differences show up.

Frequently asked questions
Do I always need All-Risk for my car?
No. All-Risk is mainly sensible for a new, expensive, leased or financed car. For an older car, WA+ or even WA only can be smarter. Compare the extra premium with the market value and your own cash buffer.
How can I make car insurance cheaper?
Check your claim-free years, mileage band, security, deductible and any package discount. Do not save money by stripping out important terms such as glass, repair choice or replacement car.
Does commission-free mean I get a different policy?
Not necessarily. The point is to compare the same or similar cover without hidden commission. Sometimes your current insurer is still the best fit; sometimes another one is better.
Will my request be sent to multiple firms?
No. PolisMoment sends your request to one independent advice firm. Your details are not resold to multiple parties.
